What is it?
The BYD M9 is priced from $61,990 plus on-road costs in Australia for the eight-seat Dynamic, with the seven-seat Premium at $72,990 plus on-road costs, and it is due before the end of 2026. It is BYD's first people mover for Australia and a plug-in hybrid, pairing a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor in the DM-i 5.0 system for up to 145 km of electric-only driving and up to 850 km combined on the WLTP cycle in Premium form. At 5,145 mm long on a 3,045 mm wheelbase it sits at the larger end of the class with three rows of seats, and it parks itself directly on top of the Kia Carnival, the default family bus in this country.
The lineup runs from M9 Dynamic (8-seat) at $61,990 plus on-roads, through to M9 Premium (7-seat) at $72,990 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 6 years, 150,000 km (vehicle).
