What is it?
The Transit City is Ford's electric van built specifically for city work, and it lands in Australia from November 2026 at a recommended drive-away price of $50,000. Ford has kept it dead simple on purpose: one well-equipped spec, no confusing option lists, so a fleet can order a dozen and get a dozen identical vans. It runs a 56 kWh LFP battery and a 110 kW front motor for up to 254 km of WLTP combined range, or up to 380 km around town where these things actually live. Ford sized the battery off telematics from more than 2,000 Transit Customs working real routes, which showed most urban days are under 76 km. It swallows 6.4 cubic metres and three Euro pallets, carries up to 1,085 kg, fast-charges from 10 to 80% in about 33 minutes, and comes with heavy-duty load protection, a 12.3-inch screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, AEB and adaptive cruise as standard.

Reasons to buy

- Warranty: Up to 7 years, unlimited km when dealer-serviced; 8 years / 160,000 km on the high-voltage battery.

Reasons to wait
- 254 km of combined range means this is a city and metro tool, not a long-haul interstate van. If your drivers rack up big highway kilometres, look elsewhere.
- You need long highway range, heavier payload than 1,085 kg, or more than the single spec offers. A diesel Transit Custom or a larger van may still fit better.
- Map your daily routes against the range and plan your depot charging. At 11 kW AC it needs about 5.5 hours for a full overnight top-up, so a depot charger is the way to run it cheaply.
