The Pathfinder name once meant mud and rocks. This generation made peace with the suburbs, and that is no bad thing. This is the large seven seat SUV for the family that needs three rows, a tow ball, and a comfortable highway cruise rather than a rock crawling badge of honour.

Simone fills all seven seats and runs the weekend test, sport on Saturday, road trip on Sunday. The third row is usable for actual humans, the boot behind it still takes the soft esky and the camp chairs, and the cabin keeps road noise at bay on the open road. She notes the CVT prefers calm inputs and rewards a relaxed driver over an impatient one.

Families who tow a modest van and value space over off road bravado will find a lot to like. If your weekends end at a remote campsite down a goat track, this is not your tool. As a do everything family bus, the Pathfinder makes a quiet, sensible case.
