The 2018 Kia Sorento is a genuine all-new model, not a facelift, and it arrives with clear design improvements over the outgoing car. The headlights and taillights have been redesigned, the grille carries a fresh look, and the exhaust tip has been updated to match the revised exterior. The changes add up to a more polished overall appearance.

The Si 2WD is the entry point into the Sorento range. Its 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine produces 206 kW and 336 Nm of torque, but those peaks arrive high in the rev range at 6,300 rpm and 5,000 rpm respectively. The engine is smooth and refined; it simply rewards drivers who are prepared to use the revs.

Pricing for the 2018 Sorento starts from around $42,000. Against rivals such as the Toyota Kluger, Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-9, the Sorento competes on both specification and Kia's seven-year warranty, which remains one of the strongest ownership propositions in the segment.
