The Subaru Levorg makes perfect sense on paper: WRX mechanicals in a practical wagon body, with symmetrical all-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine. In a market where station wagons have been largely replaced by SUVs, the Levorg makes a case for the format that is worth hearing.
Jenny reviews the GT-S, the sportier of the two Levorg variants, which comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged flat-four. The cabin has a rally-influenced feel without being uncomfortable, the all-wheel drive system inspires confidence on wet roads, and the boot is properly usable for a household with a dog, a pram, or both. It is a niche car that knows its niche.
The Levorg is for Subaru loyalists and wagon believers, a dwindling but determined group. Those who test it and understand what it offers tend to like it. Those who need to be convinced to buy a wagon probably will not be swayed by any argument. Subaru has made peace with that.
