Amelia reviews the 2019 Haval H9 Ultra in Australia. The H9 is a body-on-frame seven-seat SUV that sits above the smaller H2 and H6 in Haval's local lineup. The Ultra grade gains an uprated 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine producing 180kW and 350Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic and a four-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer case for off-road capability.

The H9 Ultra comes well equipped with leather seating for seven, a large touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera system. The interior is spacious across all three rows and the overall presentation is of a higher standard than some might expect from the brand. The ladder-frame construction means ride quality is firm compared with car-based SUVs but it brings the benefit of genuine off-road credentials.

At its price point the H9 Ultra offers a lot of features, seats and capability for families who need a proper seven-seater with four-wheel drive ability. Haval's growing dealer network and competitive warranty conditions add reassurance to what is a genuinely capable and well-appointed package.
