The first-gen Kona Electric is the small SUV that proved a sub-$70k EV with proper range could work in Australia. Same body as the petrol Kona, but with a 64 kWh battery and a 150 kW front motor underneath.
What you are buying
A 64 kWh battery, a 150 kW front-mounted motor, and a WLTP range of around 484 km. Charging tops out at 77 kW DC. The Highlander spec adds the leather, the head-up display, the upgraded driver assistance, and the bigger wheels.
Cartell Assessment
The first-gen Kona EV was the breakout small EV for Hyundai in Australia. Replaced by the second-gen in 2023 with more space and the dedicated EV platform, but the original is still a competent small SUV on the used market.
