The Hyundai Santa Fe has built its reputation as the sensible choice in Australia's competitive medium SUV segment. The 2021 update brings a bolder front end, a larger infotainment screen and a spec sheet that punches at buyers spending considerably more elsewhere. In Highlander trim, it arrives with everything a family could need bar a pony.

Amelia puts it through a week that most Australian families would recognise: school pick-ups, a Saturday at Bunnings with the boot loaded, and some longer highway stretches where refinement matters. The Santa Fe's ride comfort on the kinds of crumbling suburban roads we seem to love in this country is a genuine strength. Third-row access is manageable for younger passengers and the boot still swallows a decent Coles shop.

For buyers who want a roomy, well-equipped family SUV without crossing into premium badge territory, the Santa Fe Highlander makes a clear argument. It is not the most exciting thing in the segment and will not win over anyone chasing driving dynamics. It is, however, exactly what it promises to be.
