The XC40 Recharge is Volvo's first all-electric SUV in Australia. Built on the same CMA platform as the petrol XC40, but with a 78 kWh battery, dual motors (in the higher trim) and Volvo's Google-native infotainment that the petrol car does not get.

What you are buying

A 78 kWh battery, dual motors making a combined 300 kW and 660 Nm in the top trim, and a WLTP range of around 420 km. Charging tops out at 150 kW DC. Inside, the XC40 Recharge uses Google Automotive Services with built-in Maps and Assistant.

Cartell Assessment

The XC40 Recharge is the small luxury EV for the buyer who would otherwise have walked into a BMW iX1 showroom and paid more. The cabin is the highlight: properly resolved, quietly luxurious, and the Google-native infotainment is a meaningful upgrade over Volvo's previous system.

AU Outlook

XC40 Recharge Twin Motor Ultimate pricing in 2022 sat in the mid-$80k drive-away range. Cross-shop is the Polestar 2, the BMW iX1 and the Audi Q4 e-tron 50.
