The 2023 Santa Fe Hybrid is the first hybrid powertrain in Hyundai's mid-size SUV in Australia, before the more radical 2024 boxy redesign. It uses the 1.6 L turbo petrol hybrid system shared with the Kia Sorento Hybrid, in the familiar curvy Santa Fe body.

What you are buying

A 1.6 L turbo petrol hybrid making a combined 169 kW, paired with a six-speed automatic, driving all four wheels. Combined fuel use is around 6 L/100 km, which is a major step down from the V6 petrol Santa Fe it shared the showroom with. The Highlander spec is the top trim with the full luxury and ADAS pack.

Cartell Assessment

The pre-update Santa Fe Hybrid is the safe seven-seat hybrid choice for the buyer who finds the 2024 boxy redesign too divisive. It does not have the new car's interior tech, but the powertrain and the practicality are essentially the same.

AU Outlook

Santa Fe Hybrid Highlander pricing in 2023 sat in the high-$60k drive-away range. If you find a used or end-of-line example, cross-shop is the Kia Sorento Hybrid GT-Line and the Toyota Kluger Grande Hybrid.
