The ZS EV is the car that first proved a sub-$50k EV was possible in Australia. Built on a modified ZS petrol platform, it brought a 50.3 kWh battery and a 130 kW front-mounted motor to a price point most rivals could not touch.

What you are buying

A 50.3 kWh battery, a 130 kW single front-mounted motor, and a WLTP range of around 320 km on the Standard Range, or 440 km on the Long Range Essence. Charging tops out at 76 kW DC. Inside, the Excite spec keeps things simple with cloth seats, smaller wheels, and the basic touchscreen.

Cartell Assessment

The ZS EV Excite is the entry-level EV that does the basics. Range is honest rather than impressive. Build quality is acceptable for the price. Newer rivals (MG4, BYD Atto 3) have moved the segment further. If your budget is at the absolute bottom of the EV market, this is one of very few options.

AU Outlook

ZS EV Excite pricing in Australia sits in the high-$40k drive-away range. The Long Range Essence is in the low-$50k bracket. Cross-shop is the BYD Atto 3 and the MG4. Verify the latest figures with the MG Australia configurator.
