Geely sells two models in Australia today. By the end of 2027 it plans to sell seven. Geely Auto Australia has confirmed a run of new launches that includes a cheap electric hatch, a Toyota Prado rival and a hybrid sedan aimed straight at the Camry. This is not a toe in the water.
What is coming and when
First up is the EX2, a small electric hatchback due in the third quarter of 2026. It slots in below the EX5 as Geely's new entry model and lines up against the BYD Dolphin and the coming wave of sub-$30,000 EVs. Geely has not confirmed Australian pricing yet, so treat any number as a guess until the brand says otherwise.
The headline act is the Galaxy Cruiser, a plug-in hybrid four-wheel drive built to chase the Toyota Prado. It rides on a dedicated off-road platform with a rear diff lock and 800mm of wading depth, and the hottest version is quoted at up to 745kW from a twin rear-motor setup. Geely will also add the Emgrand, a hybrid sedan, in 2027, opening with a 230kW plug-in system.
The ute question
Geely has also confirmed a six-cylinder ute under its Riddara sub-brand, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine making 400kW and 700Nm before any hybrid assistance. That one is further out, with an Australian launch not expected before 2028. It will land into a ute segment that already has the BYD Shark 6 PHEV doing the hard work of convincing buyers a Chinese ute is a real ute.
Cartell Assessment
Geely is doing the thing that worked for BYD and MG: arrive quietly, then fill out the range before anyone has decided how they feel about you. Seven models by 2027 is a serious bet, and the Galaxy Cruiser is the one to watch, because a credible Prado rival at a Chinese price would genuinely rattle Toyota. The risk for Geely is the boring stuff. Two models is not enough dealers, not enough service coverage and not enough resale history to make a regional buyer comfortable. Product is the easy part. Trust takes longer.
AU Outlook
The EX2 in the third quarter of 2026 is the first real test, and a small EV is the right car to build volume and showroom traffic. The Galaxy Cruiser and Emgrand are 2027 stories, the V6 ute a 2028 one. For now, treat Geely as a brand worth watching rather than one to wait for, and judge it on the EX2's price when that number finally lands.
