The Honda CR-V has been one of Australia's most consistently popular medium SUVs for good reason. The 2013 generation refines the formula with a more comfortable ride, a smarter interior and improved standard equipment.
The 2.4-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder makes 140kW and 222Nm. It's paired with a five-speed automatic in 4WD configuration. The powertrain is smooth and responsive in everyday use, though economy at around 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres could be better for a modern medium SUV.
Honda's real-time 4WD system engages automatically when front wheel slip is detected. In normal conditions it operates as a front-wheel drive vehicle for efficiency. It's not a system designed for serious off-road work, but it provides reassurance in poor weather and on unsealed surfaces.
The interior is a genuine improvement over the previous generation. Materials quality has lifted and the layout is more contemporary. The boot is particularly good, with a flat floor and a practical shape that swallows luggage without argument.
Rear seat space is generous. The CR-V has always prioritised practicality and the 2013 model continues that tradition.
The Honda warranty package is competitive and the CR-V has an established reputation for long-term reliability. Among its direct competitors in the medium SUV segment, it remains one of the more complete packages.
