The Hyundai KONA Electric makes a reasonable pitch as a weekender. Small enough for city parking, big enough for bags, and electric enough to make you think about where you are going to charge when you get there.

Jenny takes the KONA up to the Blue Mountains for a proper escape test. Winding roads, elevation changes, and the search for a working charger in a mountain town all feature. The KONA handles the scenic driving without complaint. The charging infrastructure handles it less gracefully.

If your weekend trips are under 400 kilometres round trip and you are willing to do a bit of planning, the KONA Electric earns its place. If spontaneity is your thing, pack more patience than the brochure suggests.
