Leapmotor is close to launching a small electric SUV in Australia, the B03X, and the number it is chasing could reset the bottom of the market. The brand is targeting around $29,990, which would make the B03X the cheapest electric SUV on sale here.
Cheaper than the benchmark
At that money the B03X would undercut the BYD Atto 2, which starts at $31,990, and sit below every other electric SUV in the country. The figure is a target rather than a confirmed price, so treat it with some caution. On the spec side, the entry grade pairs a 130kW motor with a 39.8kWh battery for 292km of WLTP range, while a higher grade lifts that to a 53.0kWh battery and up to 382km. Leapmotor, which is backed by Stellantis, expects the B03X to arrive later in 2026.
Cartell Assessment
A sub $30,000 electric SUV with up to 382km of range would be a serious value play, and it would pile more pressure on BYD and MG at the budget end. The price is not locked in, so the launch sheet is the one to watch.
AU Outlook
The cut-price electric SUV fight is now the busiest corner of the market, and Chinese brands are setting the pace on price.
