Leapmotor has set a new floor for electric SUVs in Australia. The B03X reaches dealers in November 2026 from $29,990 drive-away, which makes it the cheapest electric SUV on sale here, and orders are open now.

What the money buys

Two grades launch. The Style runs a 130kW motor, a 39.8kWh LFP battery and up to 292km of WLTP range, listed at $26,990 before on-road costs or $29,990 drive-away. The Design LR steps up to 145kW, a 53kWh battery and up to 382km, at $30,990 before on-road costs or $33,990 drive-away. Both are five-seat front-wheel-drive SUVs, 4,270mm long and built in China, and both carry a six-year, 150,000km vehicle warranty with an eight-year, 160,000km battery warranty. The drive-away prices apply to Acorn Brown cars delivered by 31 December 2026, with five other colours adding $990, and they exclude government, fleet and rental buyers.

Cartell Assessment

At $26,990 before on-road costs, the Style undercuts the BYD Atto 2 Dynamic by about $5,000, and that is the number that matters. The trade-off is range. The base car's 292km trails the Atto 2's 345km, so a longer daily commute points you to the Design LR. There is no ANCAP rating yet, which is worth weighing on a brand this new to Australia. AU Outlook

The B03X drags the budget end of the EV market down with it, so rivals such as the Atto 2 and the MG4 now have a sharper number to answer. Watch how the November arrival lands, and whether the launch drive-away pricing holds once the 31 December window closes.
