The Mazda 6e electric liftback has secured a five star ANCAP safety rating, with 93 per cent scores for both adult and child occupant protection.
Strong numbers across the board
The rear-drive EV scored 37.39 points from 40 for adult occupants, with maximum points in the side impact and far side impact tests. Child occupant protection came in at 46 from 49 points, vulnerable road user protection at 74 per cent and safety assist at 79 per cent. The rating carries a 2025 protocol date stamp and runs to December 2031, covering both grades sold here.
Notably, every 6e gets a centre airbag as standard, the same feature KGM is in trouble for advertising but not fitting. The Mazda 6e went on sale in July at $49,990 plus on-roads for the GT and $52,990 for the Atenza, powered by a 78kWh LFP battery, a 190kW and 290Nm rear motor, and up to 560km of WLTP range.
Cartell Assessment
A 93 per cent adult occupant score is a seriously strong result for Mazda's first crack at a mainstream EV, and it undercuts a Tesla Model 3 on price while matching it on stars.
AU Outlook
The 6e's problem will not be safety, it will be badge inertia in a segment Tesla still owns. A five star result removes one excuse not to look at it.
