Land Rover has finally revealed the Range Rover Electric, the first battery powered version of its original luxury SUV, and confirmed Australian pricing at the same time. The range opens at $317,718 before on road costs for the HSE, rising to $357,718 for the Autobiography and $417,418 for the SV.
The numbers
A 118.5kWh usable battery feeds dual electric motors for a combined 405kW and 850Nm, with permanent all wheel drive. Land Rover quotes up to 535km of real world range, and a claimed 600km on the older NEDC cycle. On a 350kW DC charger the battery goes from 10 to 80 per cent in about 22 minutes, or adds around 220km in 10 minutes.
Same Range Rover, now silent
The electric model keeps the familiar Range Rover silhouette, cabin and off road hardware, so buyers are not asked to trade luxury or capability for the switch to battery power. Order books are open in Australia now, though Land Rover has not locked in a first delivery date.
Cartell Assessment
This is a serious luxury EV that leans on the Range Rover badge rather than reinventing it, and the range figure is competitive for something this large and heavy. The pricing is steep, but so is every rival at this end, and the badge does a lot of work here.
AU Outlook
Expect the first Australian deliveries to firm up once local allocation is set. At more than $300,000 to start this is a low volume halo, but it plants the Range Rover name firmly in the electric era ahead of a wider rollout across the family.
