The Reid Let's Moto is the e-bike that gets photographed. A retro moped silhouette, tan-wall 20 x 4 inch fat tyres and a step-through alloy frame make it the most deliberate style statement under two thousand dollars in Australia, and right now it is selling well under that, at $1,599.99 down from a $2,299 RRP.
Under the looks it is a properly sensible commuter. The 250W Ananda rear hub motor puts out 42Nm, enough for flat and rolling city riding, with pedal assist capped at the legal 25 km/h. The 529Wh battery is generous at this price, and Reid's range claims run as high as 100 kilometres in the lightest assist mode, with 80 kilometres plus the more commonly quoted figure. Treat those as best-case numbers: fat tyres and higher assist levels will pull real-world range down, but a full week of city commuting on one charge is realistic.
The spec where the Let's Moto beats its price bracket is the stopping and shifting hardware. Tektro hydraulic disc brakes are rare under $2,000, where most rivals fit cable-actuated discs, and the Shimano 7-speed drivetrain with a Prowheel crankset keeps pedalling honest when the assist cuts out. Internal cable routing keeps the moto look clean.
The honest caveats
Two things to know before you buy. First, the moped styling that makes the bike photogenic can also draw attention: it is a compliant 250W pedelec, but several states are actively enforcing against moped-look machines, so keep the paperwork handy and expect the occasional conversation. Second, Reid is not currently shipping e-bikes to New South Wales while the state's enforcement rules settle, so NSW buyers will need to wait or collect interstate.
