Subaru Australia has issued a safety recall for 42 examples of the 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid over a fault that can stop the car from staying in Park. The campaign reference is REC-006737.

What the fault is

Subaru says a manufacturing defect in the transaxle intermediate case can crack the support section for the parking pawl. If that happens, the park lock may not hold when the transmission is shifted into Park, so the vehicle could move unexpectedly when the driver thinks it is parked, with a crash and injury risk.

Cartell Assessment

It is a small recall, just 42 cars, and the fix is free. Subaru will write to affected owners to book the repair. If you are in a new Forester Hybrid, the quickest way to know is a VIN check on the government recall site, or a call to Subaru on 1800 226 643.

AU Outlook

This is a fast, contained response rather than a scare. It is worth a two minute VIN check if you own one, and then back to normal.
