The first slice of September electric-car data is in, and it points one way. Tesla and Polestar together delivered 5,854 battery-electric vehicles in Australia in September 2026, up 19.5 per cent on the same month last year.
Model Y still out in front
The two brands report deliveries separately from the main VFACTS tally, so this is an early read rather than the whole market. Tesla accounted for 5,654 of the total and Polestar 200, and the Tesla Model Y was the clear best-seller at 4,476 units, with the Model 3 on 1,178. Year to date, the pair have now delivered 43,386 battery-electric vehicles, up 76.9 per cent on the same period in 2025.
Cartell Assessment
The headline is simple: even as brands cut prices to the bone, more buyers are going electric, not fewer. Rising volume and falling prices at the same time is the sign of a market finding its feet rather than stalling.
AU Outlook
The full September VFACTS figures are the next marker, and they will show how the Model Y is faring against the HiLux and the Ranger at the top of the sales charts.
