Toyota has widened its Kluger seatback recall, and it now covers 46,467 of the family SUVs. The action grows an earlier campaign and takes in build dates all the way to mid 2025.
What is wrong
The affected Klugers were built between 31 March 2021 and 10 June 2025, across 4x2, all-wheel-drive and hybrid grades in GX, GXL and Grande trim. A recliner fault means a second-row seatback may not fully engage and may not stay locked, so it could fail to hold an occupant in a higher-speed crash. It is one of the most common family SUVs on Australian roads, which is why the numbers are large.
Cartell Assessment
This is a sensible, free fix rather than a scare. The Toyota Kluger remedy is a seatback return-spring replacement that takes about an hour, and Toyota is contacting owners directly.
