Xpeng has cut the price of its G6 electric SUV to $51,800, three thousand dollars less than before, with the updated car landing in showrooms this month. That puts it roughly $7,100 under the Tesla Model Y.
What changed
The G6 keeps the 800 volt architecture Xpeng relaunched with in July, which means fast charging that takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 12 minutes on a strong enough DC plug. The price cut is the headline move: three thousand dollars off, landing at $51,800 and putting clear water between the G6 and the Model Y on price while matching it on the metric that actually matters at a public charger.
Cartell Assessment
Chinese brands keep playing the same card in this segment: more technology for less money, and buyers keep responding. Cutting price on a car that already had the faster charging story is Xpeng making sure it does not lose the value argument as more mid size electric SUVs land here through the second half of 2026. The G6 was already a legitimate Model Y alternative on paper. This makes it a harder one to ignore on price too.
AU Outlook
Watch how Tesla responds locally if the G6 starts pulling meaningful sales volume, and whether Xpeng's dealer and service network can keep pace with a price that is going to bring in buyers who would not otherwise have looked past the badge.
