What is it?

The i20 facelifted iX is BMW's purpose built electric SUV flagship, sitting above the X5 in the AU lineup. The 2026 update refreshes the front bumper and lights, lifts battery capacity across the range, and adds the new M70 xDrive at the top. Three variants for Australia, all AWD: xDrive45 with 94.8 kWh, and xDrive60 and M70 sharing the new 109.1 kWh pack with 270 kW DC peak charging.

The lineup runs from xDrive45 at $139,900 plus on-roads, through to M70 xDrive at $222,900 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.

Interior and Technology

701 km WLTP on xDrive60 leads the large electric SUV segment. The bigger battery cars charge at 270 kW peak. Cabin materials and packaging feel a generation ahead of the X5, with a 500 L boot, 1,750 L folded, plus a 35 L frunk.

Polarising face is now in its second generation and still divides buyers. Hexagonal steering wheel takes getting used to. Heavy kerb weight is felt on tight country roads. Pricing starts to overlap with EQS SUV and Cadillac Lyriq.
