What is it?
The i30 Sedan is the car the rest of the world knows as the Elantra, badged in Australia under the i30 family to sit alongside the hatch. The 2024 facelift added the Hybrid powertrain, sharper LED signatures, and a refreshed cabin with dual 10.25-inch displays standard from base.
The lineup runs from i30 2.0 CVT at $30,000 plus on-roads, through to i30 Sedan N at $52,500 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.
Interior and Technology
Three powertrains under one nameplate, including a 4.0 L/100 km hybrid and a 206 kW i30 Sedan N. 474 L boot is larger than most small sedan rivals.
Wireless CarPlay is missing on the top N Line Premium grade (wired only). The CVT on the 2.0L is fine but not memorable, and the N Line DCT can hesitate at parking-lot speeds.
Should you buy the i30 Sedan?
Reasons to buy
- Three powertrains under one nameplate, including a 4.0 L/100 km hybrid and a 206 kW i30 Sedan N. 474 L boot is larger than most small sedan rivals.
- Warranty: 5 years, unlimited km.
- 5-star ANCAP (2020), full driver-assist suite.
- 474 L boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
Reasons to wait
- Wireless CarPlay is missing on the top N Line Premium grade (wired only). The CVT on the 2.0L is fine but not memorable, and the N Line DCT can hesitate at parking-lot speeds.
- You want a Toyota's smoother CVT hybrid (Corolla Sedan), you want the cabin polish of a Mazda 3, or the sedan body style is a dealbreaker against the SUV tide.
- Sedan body style is a tougher sell against SUVs at the price. If you do not need a boot, cross-shop the Kona Hybrid which adds SUV practicality at similar money.
- Top trim climbs to $52,500 plus on-roads.
