What is it?
The Ioniq 6 is Hyundai's streamliner sedan on the E-GMP 800V platform shared with the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. With 614 km of WLTP range on the Long Range RWD, it is the technical benchmark in the mid-size electric sedan class.
The lineup runs from Standard Range RWD at $74,000 plus on-roads, through to Long Range AWD at $88,000 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.
Interior and Technology
614 km WLTP on the Long Range RWD with 350 kW DC peak charging. The 0.21 Cd drag coefficient explains both the range and the quiet cabin.
Standard Range at $74,000 plus on-roads is steep against a BYD Seal Premium at $58,798 drive-away. The streamliner shape also restricts rear headroom for tall passengers.
Should you buy the Ioniq 6?
Reasons to buy
- 614 km WLTP on the Long Range RWD with 350 kW DC peak charging. The 0.21 Cd drag coefficient explains both the range and the quiet cabin.
- Warranty: 7 years, unlimited km. Battery: 8 years, 160,000 km.
- 5-star ANCAP (2023), full driver-assist suite.
- 401 L boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
Reasons to wait
- Standard Range at $74,000 plus on-roads is steep against a BYD Seal Premium at $58,798 drive-away. The streamliner shape also restricts rear headroom for tall passengers.
- You want a cheaper EV sedan (BYD Seal is sub-$60k drive-away), you prefer a Tesla Supercharger network, or you need bigger boot or hatch practicality.
- The Long Range RWD is the buy. Standard Range loses too much range, AWD trades range for grip you may not need on a sedan.
- Top trim climbs to $88,000 plus on-roads.
