What is it?
The MQ4 Sorento is Kia's 7-seat large SUV, refreshed in 2024 with the new family face, the dual 12.3-inch curved display from the EV9, and the widest powertrain choice of any rival: V6 petrol, diesel, HEV and PHEV.
The lineup runs from S Diesel AWD at $53,000 plus on-roads, through to GT-Line PHEV AWD at $84,260 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 7 years, unlimited km.
Interior and Technology
Only large SUV with V6, diesel, HEV and PHEV across the lineup. The 1.6T PHEV is unique in segment with 68 km of WLTP EV range.
Third row is tight, Santa Fe and Palisade have more space back there. ANCAP score from 2020 is also due for re-test.
Should you buy the Sorento?
Reasons to buy
- Only large SUV with V6, diesel, HEV and PHEV across the lineup. The 1.6T PHEV is unique in segment with 68 km of WLTP EV range.
- Warranty: 7 years, unlimited km.
- 5-star ANCAP (2020), full driver-assist suite.
- 608 L (2nd row up) boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
- Braked towing rated at 2,000 kg.
Reasons to wait
- Third row is tight, Santa Fe and Palisade have more space back there. ANCAP score from 2020 is also due for re-test.
- You need a larger third row for adults (Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Kluger), you tow 3,500 kg (Ford Everest), or the 2020 ANCAP score gives you pause.
- PHEV adds roughly $20k over the hybrid, so the payback maths only works if you charge at home and run short daily commutes on electricity.
- Top trim climbs to $84,260 plus on-roads.
