What is it?

The EQS is Mercedes-Benz's all-electric S-Class equivalent, riding on the dedicated EVA platform with a 118 kWh battery and a 0.20 drag coefficient. Three variants on sale: 450+ (RWD), 450 4MATIC (AWD), and 484 kW 580 4MATIC. MBUX Hyperscreen optional, rear-axle steering standard, hatchback rear opening.

The lineup runs from EQS 450+ at $234,400 plus on-roads, through to EQS 580 4MATIC at $284,400 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.

Interior and Technology

717 km WLTP on the EQS 450+ remains a segment benchmark. Optional MBUX Hyperscreen is the most theatrical cabin in the class, rear-axle steering up to 10 degrees parks like a C-Class, Burmester 3D Surround Sound standard.

Polarising hatchback silhouette, not a traditional three-box S-Class. Pricing climbs past $300,000 with options on the 580. DC charge peak of 200 kW is short of the Porsche Taycan at 270 kW+.

Should you buy the EQS?

Reasons to buy

  • 717 km WLTP on the EQS 450+ remains a segment benchmark. Optional MBUX Hyperscreen is the most theatrical cabin in the class, rear-axle steering up to 10 degrees parks like a C-Class, Burmester 3D Surround Sound standard.
  • Warranty: 5 years, unlimited km. Battery: 8 years, 160,000 km.
  • 5-star ANCAP (2022), full driver-assist suite.
  • 610 L (hatchback) boot, segment-competitive cargo space.

Reasons to wait

  • Polarising hatchback silhouette, not a traditional three-box S-Class. Pricing climbs past $300,000 with options on the 580. DC charge peak of 200 kW is short of the Porsche Taycan at 270 kW+.
  • You prefer a traditional three-box silhouette (BMW i7), want 800V architecture and faster charging (Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT), or want sports-sedan handling over limousine comfort.
  • Hyperscreen draws fingerprints and glares on bright days, see it in daylight before committing. Rear headroom is compromised by the sloping roofline, tall passengers should test the back seat.
  • Top trim climbs to $284,400 plus on-roads.
