Chery has opened the order book on the Stockman, a plug-in ute it calls a world first, and the numbers are the talking point. A refundable $1,000 deposit holds a spot, with deliveries due from February 2027.

Supercar torque, ute job

The launch Stockman pairs a 2.5 litre turbo-diesel with electric drive for 350 kW and 800 Nm, up to 100 km of electric range on the NEDC cycle, a combined figure around 2.0 L/100km and a 3,500 kg braked tow. For context, a Ford Ranger Raptor makes 600 Nm, so the Stockman beats it on torque on paper. A petrol plug-in with 395 kW and 1,000 Nm is promised for the second half of 2027. The sweetener is pure Australia: a $2,000 Bunnings gift card plus three years or 45,000 km of free scheduled servicing.

Cartell Assessment

The specs read like a dare to the BYD Shark 6, the Ford Ranger and the Toyota HiLux. The one blank is the one that matters, because Chery still has not named a price.

AU Outlook

Pricing should land before February deliveries. Until it does, treat the deposit as a low-risk way to hold your place.
