The Chrysler 300 has always been about presence. You park it next to a Camry and the Camry seems apologetic about existing. The 2012 update refines the formula without changing the fundamental character.
The Limited grade runs a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 producing 209kW and 352Nm. It drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which is one of the better units in this class. Fuel economy is around 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined.
The exterior updates for 2012 include revised headlights, a new grille and smarter alloy wheel designs. The 300's muscular proportions remain unchanged. It still looks like something from a film where everyone drives on the wrong side of the road.
Inside, the Limited cabin has improved noticeably. The centre console has been redesigned, the infotainment system is more responsive and the material quality has stepped up. Heated leather seats, a panoramic sunroof and a premium sound system are all standard.
Rear seat space is exceptional. The 300 is a genuinely large sedan and rear passengers benefit from that generously.
It's not the most dynamic car in this price bracket. The steering is remote and body roll in corners is present. But buyers of the 300 are not shopping for dynamics. They want something that turns heads, rides smoothly and delivers American luxury at a price that European equivalents can't match.
