The Eunorau META26 X2.0 is the e-bike most people should actually be buying. It is a 26-inch city commuter with a torque sensor (not a cadence sensor, which makes all the difference between feeling like you are riding and feeling like you are being pushed), a step-through V-frame, integrated lights, mudguards, hydraulic disc brakes, and a 36V 15Ah battery that does 80 kilometres on a charge. For under two thousand dollars. There is not much to complain about.

What you notice first is how natural the assist feels. Most e-bikes at this price use a cadence sensor, which kicks in the moment your legs move and feels a bit jerky. The META26 measures how hard you are pedalling and matches the motor to that. The result is smooth, predictable power. Pulling away from lights is easy. Hills stop being a thing you dread.

The 250-watt rear hub motor is the size you need to stay road-legal in Australia, and Eunorau has not tried to be clever about it. Top speed caps at 25 km/h. The lights run off the main battery so there is nothing extra to charge. The mudguards are factory-fitted so you do not arrive at work with a wet stripe up your back. Braking is hydraulic disc with motor cut-off. The step-through V-frame is the detail that gets undersold: easier to mount in work clothes, easier with a kid seat or trailer attached.

Range is a claimed 80 km, real-world about 60 km in mixed riding, plenty for any daily commute. The bike weighs around 30 kg, which is noticeable if you need to carry it up stairs. If your storage is at ground level, you will not care. If your apartment is on the fourth floor and there is no lift, look at a folder instead.

For couples, families, and anyone whose daily ride is the school run plus the supermarket plus the occasional weekend trail, the META26 X2.0 is the one to buy.
