Ford has sharpened the plug-in Ranger with a new entry grade and a fuel sweetener. The Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid now opens with an XL grade from $59,000 drive-away, down from the $62,000 the range started at before. On top of that, eligible Ranger and Everest buyers get a $4,000 fuel card while stock lasts, delivered as a digital card you spend at the bowser.
Why now
The BYD Shark 6 has been setting the pace in the plug-in ute class all year, most recently at $57,900 drive-away. A cheaper Ranger XL with money toward fuel is Ford reading that pressure and answering it. The new XL still carries a decent kit list, so it is not a stripped out price leader.

Drive-away pricing plus a fuel card is the kind of deal that shifts a tradie off the fence. It does not out sticker the Shark 6, but the Blue Oval badge and the dealer network carry weight for buyers who keep a ute for a decade.
