Ford has revealed the all-electric Transit City for Australia, and the pitch is refreshingly simple: one van, one spec, ready to work. It arrives from November 2026 at a recommended $50,000 drive-away.

One spec, no headaches

Ford has deliberately skipped the giant options list. Every Transit City turns up the same, well kitted, so a fleet can order ten and get ten identical vans with no ordering drama. It comes standard with heavy-duty load protection, a full load liner, a 12.3-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, AEB and adaptive cruise with stop and go.

Sized off real-world data

Rather than guess the battery, Ford analysed telematics from more than 2,000 Transit Customs working real Australian routes and found most urban days come in under 76km. So it fitted a 56 kWh LFP battery and a 110 kW front motor for up to 254km WLTP combined, or up to 380km around town. Payload is a healthy 1,085 kg, it swallows 6.4 cubic metres and three Euro pallets, and it fast-charges from 10 to 80% in about 33 minutes.

Cartell Assessment

For a metro courier, sparkie or florist doing predictable runs, this makes proper sense. Right-sized battery, cheap to charge overnight, and with no turbo or gearbox to service, Ford says it should cost less to maintain than a diesel. It is a city tool though, not a highway hauler.
