Honda's first electric car for Australia is officially on sale, and the queue is already longer than the supply. Pre-orders opened on 4 August for the Super-One, a retro city hatch priced at $36,900 drive-away, with a two-tone version at $37,400. Honda says it took more than 6,500 expressions of interest before order books even opened, which is more sign-ups than the Civic Type R managed.
What you get
The Super-One runs a 29.6 kWh battery good for a claimed 253 km of range, which is city car territory and Honda is not pretending otherwise. The whole car measures under 3.6 metres long and under 1.6 metres wide, built off Japanese kei car thinking. The party trick is Boost Mode: power output steps up to 70 kW and the car simulates a seven speed gearbox, complete with synthetic engine sound in the cabin.
First deliveries are scheduled from 1 October, with fewer than 130 cars allocated for Australia this year. More stock arrives in early 2027.

At $36,900 drive-away the Super-One lands right on top of the Hyundai Inster and BYD Atto 1, the exact cars small EV shoppers are already cross-shopping, and both of those rivals offer more range for similar or less money. What the Honda sells instead is character, badge trust, and a drive experience nobody else in the class is attempting. With 6,500 hands up for 130 cars, Honda clearly priced the scarcity in.
AU Outlook
This is Honda dipping a toe in the water, and the water is crowded. If the first allocation sells out in days, expect the 2027 shipment to grow and the conversation to shift from novelty to volume. If you want one this year, the advice is simple: order now or wait for autumn.
