ANCAP has widened its KGM investigation, confirming the Torres EVX electric SUV has been supplied to customers without a centre airbag, days after the same issue surfaced on the Musso EV ute.
Advertised 8 airbags, fitted with 7
KGM marketed the battery electric KGM Torres EVX with a standard suite of 8 airbags in its brochure and on its website. ANCAP says the car actually carries 7, with the front centre airbag missing. That airbag sits inboard of the driver's seat and cushions front occupants in a side impact. The Musso EV case is worse: advertised with 8, fitted with 6.
Roughly 100 Torres EVX vehicles are affected, around 33 sold in Australia since October 2025 and 70 in New Zealand from March 2024 to March 2025. Petrol and hybrid Torres variants are unaffected, with centre and knee airbags verified as fitted.
Cartell Assessment
Selling a safety feature that is not in the car is about as basic a breach of buyer trust as it gets. KGM has now corrected its marketing, but existing owners paid for a spec they did not receive.
AU Outlook
ANCAP is pushing KGM for a production change to fit the centre airbag. Watch for a remedy offer to existing owners, and for the ACCC's view on the advertising.
