What is it?

The KGM Torres is a mid-size SUV with rugged exterior styling. Petrol grades use a 1.5-litre turbo four (120 kW / 280 Nm, FWD or AWD) through an Aisin six-speed automatic. The Torres EVX adds a 73.4 kWh BYD LFP Blade battery, 152 kW front motor and 462 km WLTP range. Three petrol grades plus the EVX, 7-year unlimited-km warranty on the petrol, 4-star ANCAP under the 2024 protocol.

The lineup runs from Torres ELX at $38,000 plus on-roads, through to Torres EVX at $58,500 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 7 years, unlimited km.

Interior and Technology

703 L boot is one of the largest in the mid-size SUV class. Dual 12.3-inch displays are standard across the range, and the EVX brings a 73.4 kWh LFP Blade pack and 462 km of WLTP range at a price that undercuts the Tesla Model Y.

4-star ANCAP rating (2024 protocol) trails 5-star rivals. Climate controls live behind central touchscreen menus, the 120 kW petrol is modest next to Tucson and Sportage turbos, and EVX DC peak charging is around 120 kW.

Should you buy the Torres?

Reasons to buy

  • 703 L boot is one of the largest in the mid-size SUV class. Dual 12.3-inch displays are standard across the range, and the EVX brings a 73.4 kWh LFP Blade pack and 462 km of WLTP range at a price that undercuts the Tesla Model Y.
  • Warranty: 7 years, unlimited km. Battery: 7 years, 150,000 km (EVX).
  • 4-star ANCAP (2024), full driver-assist suite.
  • 703 L (1,662 L seats folded) boot, segment-competitive cargo space.

Reasons to wait

  • 4-star ANCAP rating (2024 protocol) trails 5-star rivals. Climate controls live behind central touchscreen menus, the 120 kW petrol is modest next to Tucson and Sportage turbos, and EVX DC peak charging is around 120 kW.
  • You want a current 5-star ANCAP rating, physical climate controls (the Torres buries them in the central touchscreen), or faster DC charging than the EVX's ~120 kW peak.
  • Confirm whether your daily-driving habits work with touchscreen-only climate. EVX peak DC charging is modest for the price, factor your road-tripping pattern in before signing.
  • Top trim climbs to $58,500 plus on-roads.
