The [Leapmotor B05](/cars/leapmotor) has arrived in Australia, and it lands with a price that will get the segment's attention. The Golf-sized electric hatch opens at $35,990 drive-away, putting it right on top of the MG4 and well under a Tesla Model 3 RWD.
Two batteries, one rear motor
The entry Style pairs a 56.2kWh LFP battery with up to 401km of WLTP range. Step up to the Design LR and you get a 67.1kWh LFP pack good for up to 482km WLTP, priced at $39,990 drive-away. Both variants run a single 160kW/240Nm motor driving the rear wheels, so this is a genuine rear-drive hatch, not a nose-heavy front-driver. LFP chemistry means you can charge to 100 per cent daily without fretting about battery health.

Rear-drive, LFP durability and a real 482km option for under $40,000 is a sharp package. The B05 undercuts the establishment without feeling like a penalty box, and Stellantis distribution should ease the after-sales nerves that hang over newer Chinese brands.

Watch the MG4 response and whether the hot Ultra variant follows. If Leapmotor holds this pricing, the affordable EV fight just got a lot more interesting.
