Mazda has confirmed local pricing for the all-electric CX-6e, its first mainstream electric SUV, and it has landed sharper than many expected. The Mazda CX-6e opens at $53,990 before on-road costs in GT trim, with the flagship Azami at $56,990. First customer deliveries are due to commence in September.
What you get
Every CX-6e is rear-wheel drive, with a single motor making 190kW and 290Nm. A 78kWh lithium iron phosphate battery gives a claimed 484km WLTP range, and DC charging takes it from 30 to 80 percent in as little as 15 minutes. The GT rides on 19-inch wheels and packs a 45-inch central display, a 360-degree camera, tri-zone climate and a 23-speaker audio system. The Azami adds 21-inch wheels plus digital exterior and interior mirrors.
Cartell Assessment
On price the CX-6e slots under the Tesla Model Y and the BYD Sealion 7, which is bold for a brand new to the mainstream EV game. Mazda says its related 6e sedan sold its first 300 units in two weeks, so the appetite is clearly there.
AU Outlook
The real test is range and charging in the real world against sharper Chinese rivals. If the CX-6e drives with the polish Mazda buyers expect, it arrives as a credible left-field pick in the medium EV class.
