Toyota Australia has added a factory-grade secondary immobiliser to the LandCruiser 300 Series and LandCruiser Prado 250 Series, and it is aimed squarely at the theft wave hitting the country's most-stolen models.
What you get for $1,735
Fitted as a Toyota Genuine Accessory, the immobiliser costs $1,735 installed, with the job taking about five hours. It adds a key-ring security fob, plus a spare, that must be present alongside the original key for the engine to start, along with a steering-column light and an external warning sticker. Cover runs for the rest of the new-car warranty or two years, whichever is longer. The system suits the LandCruiser 300, launched in 2021, and the Prado, on sale here since 2024.

It is not cheap, and it is a patch on a problem Toyota would rather not have. But for owners in the worst-hit suburbs, $1,735 is small next to a $100,000 vehicle walking out the driveway. The fob-plus-key requirement is the useful part: it defeats the relay and computer attacks thieves have been using.
AU Outlook
Toyota says secondary immobilisers are being considered across the wider range, with the RAV4 and HiLux the obvious next candidates. Victoria drove the numbers in 2025, with motor-theft claims up 25 per cent and costs of $243 million.
