The year's big family SUV race has flipped. On the latest figures the Toyota Prado has edged ahead of the Ford Everest for 2026, 18,062 sales to 17,944, a lead of 118 cars with two months still to run.
About a hundred cars in it
The Toyota Prado and the Ford Everest are the default cross-shop for anyone towing a caravan or hauling a full house of kids, both large seven-seat body-on-frame wagons built for the job. The Everest had held the running lead for much of the year, so the flip matters. October helped Toyota's cause: the Prado was sixth for the month on 2,397 against the Everest in eleventh on 1,741.
Cartell Assessment
A gap of about a hundred cars after ten months is nothing, so treat this as a lead rather than a result. The Everest remains the keener drive for many buyers and often the sharper deal, while the Prado trades on resale and the Toyota dealer network. On these numbers either could finish 2026 on top.
AU Outlook
With two months left this one goes to the wire. Year-end run-out offers on both will decide it, so if you are cross-shopping, November and December are the months to push hardest on price.
