The new-generation Toyota RAV4 is selling about as fast as Toyota can land it. September VFACTS data has the RAV4 up roughly 81 per cent year on year to 4,624 sales, enough for second place on the models chart behind only the Ford Ranger and ahead of the Tesla Model Y.
The hybrid family SUV everyone was waiting on
The jump reflects fresh stock of the latest RAV4, which is hybrid across the range in Australia. Buyers who had been sitting on waitlists are now getting cars, and the result is the nameplate's strongest month in a long stretch. At 4,624 units it finished within about 440 of the Ranger, so the gap between Australia's favourite ute and its favourite SUV is narrow.
Cartell Assessment
This is the clearest sign yet that mainstream buyers trust hybrids. The RAV4 is not cheap and it is not new in concept, yet it is outselling almost everything on showroom floors because it does the family job well and sips fuel. If you have an order in, that surge is your answer on availability.
AU Outlook
With a cheaper plug-in hybrid variant confirmed for 2027, the RAV4 looks set to stay near the top of the sales charts well into next year.
