What is it?
The Niro is Kia's small SUV with a unique selling angle: pick your powertrain on the same body. The Hybrid range covers HEV and PHEV, with the all-electric Niro EV sold as a separate model.
The lineup runs from Niro HEV S at $44,380 plus on-roads, through to Niro PHEV S at $51,420 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 7 years, unlimited km.
Interior and Technology

PHEV battery cuts into the rear boot floor. HEV power output also trails the Corolla Cross HEV on paper.
Should you buy the Niro Hybrid?
Reasons to buy
- Pick HEV or PHEV on the same body, both with 7-year warranty plus 7-year battery cover on the PHEV. 65 km of WLTP EV range from the PHEV covers real-world city commuting.
- Warranty: 7 years, unlimited km. Battery: 7 years.
- 5-star ANCAP (2022), full driver-assist suite.
- 475 L boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
Reasons to wait
- PHEV battery cuts into the rear boot floor. HEV power output also trails the Corolla Cross HEV on paper.
- You want a fully electric Niro (see Niro EV), you want the cheapest hybrid entry (Hyundai Kona HEV), or you want the standard HEV badge of the Toyota Corolla Cross.
- If you cannot charge at home, the HEV is the only Niro that makes financial sense. The PHEV math only works with off-street power.
