What is it?

The third-generation CX-5 is more restructure than refresh. Mazda has retired the FWD Maxx entry point and rebuilt the range around AWD as standard on every grade. The 2.5L NA petrol carries over at 132 kW and 242 Nm, paired to a six-speed automatic.

The lineup runs from Pure AWD at $39,990 plus on-roads, through to Akera AWD at $54,990 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.

Interior and Technology

AWD now standard from $39,990 plus on-roads. Cabin material quality on Akera punches well above the price tag, and the steering and ride balance remain the segment's most enthusiast-friendly.

No hybrid at launch and the turbo G35 has been dropped. The 5-year warranty is segment standard but trails Korean and Chinese rivals at 7 years and up.
