What is it?

The Model X is Tesla's full size electric SUV, sharing its platform and most drivetrain hardware with the Model S sedan. Its defining feature is the rear falcon wing doors, vertically opening with sensors that map the space around the car. MY26 refresh brings new bumpers, matrix LED headlights, acoustic glass and updated interior trims. Tesla Australia does not sell it, so any AU plated example is a private import. Two trims: Long Range AWD at 493 kW with 576 km WLTP, and Plaid tri motor at 760 kW and 2.5 second 0 to 100 km/h. 5, 6 or 7 seat layouts, 2,268 kg braked tow rating on US spec, 250 kW Supercharger V3 access via VIN registration.

The lineup runs from Long Range AWD at $190,000 plus on-roads, through to Plaid at $255,000 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 4 years, 80,000 km (vehicle).

Interior and Technology

Plaid remains the fastest accelerating large SUV on sale anywhere. 2,268 kg braked tow rating beats most ICE luxury SUVs. 250 kW Supercharger V3 access via VIN registration. 5, 6 and 7 seat layouts available from the same donor. Falcon wing doors still draw a crowd at the school gate. 2,577 L max boot plus a 187 L frunk.

Not sold by Tesla Australia. No factory warranty or dealer support. Most cars are LHD donors, RHD conversion compromises resale. 576 km WLTP is now beaten by the Model Y Long Range and the EQS SUV. Falcon wing doors are a known repair cost headache. No CarPlay or Android Auto.

Not from Tesla. The configurator does not list it and there is no factory right hand drive production. Any AU plated Model X is a private import, typically a US donor converted to RHD.

How much does a privately imported Model X cost?

Indicative landed cost sits around $190,000 for a Long Range AWD and between $240,000 and $270,000 for a Plaid, depending on options, donor sourcing and the specialist used.

How many seats does the Tesla Model X have?

5, 6 or 7 depending on the donor build. The 6 seat lounge layout with two captain's chairs in row two is the most popular option.

How much can the Tesla Model X tow?

2,268 kg braked on US specification cars, the highest of any Tesla and a figure that beats most ICE luxury SUVs.
