The 2018 Toyota Camry marks a significant moment for the model, arriving from Japan after decades of Australian production. With no local manufacturing remaining, this is Toyota's global Camry brought to Australian shores, and it brings a sharper design and a substantially longer wheelbase compared to the outgoing model.

The Ascent is the entry-level trim but still benefits from the all-new platform. Its 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol produces 131 kW and 221 Nm of torque. Buyers who want more performance can step up to a 3.5-litre V6 with 224 kW or choose the hybrid, which adds efficiency to a practical package.

The Camry competes with the Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat and Hyundai Sonata. While the mid-size sedan segment has shrunk as buyers shift to SUVs, the Camry retains a loyal following for whom the sedan package makes more practical sense than a crossover.
