The Abarth 500e is the first all-electric model from the Stellantis hot-hatch brand. Same platform as the Fiat 500e, but with the suspension stiffened, the brakes upgraded, and a synthesised exhaust note pumped through external speakers to mimic the petrol Abarth that came before it.
What you are buying
A 42 kWh battery, a 113 kW front-mounted motor, 235 Nm of torque, and an Italian sense of humour. WLTP range is around 250 km in city conditions, less on the highway. The Turismo spec is the only one Australia gets; it includes the larger touchscreen, the Alcantara-trimmed seats, the JBL audio, and the playful Scorpionissima styling pack.
Cartell Assessment
The 500e is fun to drive, looks like nothing else on the road, and is built to a higher standard than the price-equivalent Chinese EVs. The catch is the price: for what Abarth is asking, you can buy a base-model BMW i4 or a Tesla Model 3. Whether the Abarth badge and the styling are worth that premium is entirely a matter of taste.
AU Outlook
500e Turismo pricing in Australia sits at $58,900 plus on-road costs. Cross-shop is the MINI Cooper SE, the Cupra Born, and frankly nothing else at the price.
