The best selling mid-size SUV in the country has finally landed with a plug. The all-new Toyota RAV4 brings the brand's first plug-in hybrid version for Australia, opening at $58,840 plus on-roads in XSE 2WD form. The flagship GR Sport AWD sits at $66,340 plus on-roads, and the wider RAV4 range starts at $45,990 plus on-roads for the GX hybrid.
The plug-in numbers
The PHEV offers up to 100km of electric-only range on the WLTP cycle and supports 50kW DC fast charging, so a top up on the road is quicker than the old plug-in norm. Toyota took around 10,000 orders before the car even arrived, so a quick build slot will be the hard part.
Cartell Assessment
This aims straight at the BYD Sealion 6, the Mazda CX-5 and the Kia Sportage. A plug-in RAV4 with real electric range and a fast charge port answers the one gap rivals kept poking at. The GR Sport is the one the neighbours will notice.
