Alongside the good news on price, BYD has a problem. The brand is recalling 32,009 BYD Shark 6 utes because the support cable that holds the spare wheel can wear and fail, letting the spare detach from the vehicle while it is being driven. The recall was announced around 15 September 2026.
Who is affected and what to do
The campaign covers Premium, Performance and Dynamic cab-chassis builds produced between 29 August 2024 and 15 June 2026. The remedy replaces the Spare Wheel Lifter Assembly and takes about half an hour, and BYD advises owners to remove the spare wheel until the repair is carried out. Owners can run their VIN through BYD Australia's recall page to see if their ute is on the list.

A wheel coming loose on the highway is nobody's good day, and it is a bad look for BYD in the same week it is grabbing headlines on price. The fix is quick and free, so there is no reason to sit on it.

Recalls follow volume, and the Shark 6 sells hard, so a big number here is not a surprise. The test is how fast BYD's dealer network clears the backlog.
