Here is something you do not hear often: a new electric SUV just got cheaper. Cupra's updated Tavascan arrives in Australia late August, and a new entry grade called the V drops the starting price to $55,490 plus on road costs, bringing the range in by about $5,500.
What the V grade buys
The new base Tavascan V runs a 140 kW rear motor, a 58 kWh LFP battery and a claimed 414 km of WLTP range. Above it sit the Endurance at $66,490 and the flagship VZ at $75,490, both plus on roads. So the familiar Tavascan lineup stays put, the V simply opens the door lower down.
Why a price cut matters here
Fifty five grand is still a stretch for a compact electric SUV, and the V gives up battery capacity and power to hit its number. But the direction of travel is the story. With Chinese brands stacking the sub $40,000 end of the EV market, European marques are being forced to sharpen their entry pricing rather than drift upward year on year.

The Tavascan has always been one of the better looking electric SUVs on sale here, and the V grade makes the entry point more honest. 414 km of claimed range and a rear-drive 140 kW motor is enough for most buyers, most of the time. The catch is that $55,490 plus on roads still lands near $60,000 drive-away, and that money buys a lot of very capable competition.
AU Outlook
Expect the V to become the volume Tavascan almost immediately when cars land late August. The bigger signal is for the market: when a European EV brand cuts its way into a segment rather than pricing its way out, competition is doing its job. Watch for rivals to respond before the end of the year.
