You can now shop for a car on Amazon Australia, somewhere between the air fryers and the phone chargers. Geely has launched what it calls the country's first automotive virtual showroom on the platform, built with Amazon Ads, and the star of it is the EX2 electric hatch.
What you can actually do
The showroom lets you explore the EX2's features, view pricing state by state, and submit an enquiry that gets routed to your nearest dealer. Geely has paired it with interactive advertising on Prime Video, so the pitch reaches people while they are already scrolling and streaming, not just when they go looking for a new car.
The EX2 only just landed here from $26,490 before on-road costs, which makes it one of the cheapest EVs on sale in Australia.
Cartell Assessment
Selling cars where people already spend their time is a smart, low-friction play. Nobody is buying a car in a single click here, the enquiry still hands off to a dealer, but putting a live EV in front of Prime shoppers is a clever top of funnel move. The price does the heavy lifting: at $26,490 the EX2 is priced to make a casual scroller stop and think.
AU Outlook
Expect every value brand to be watching the click numbers. If the enquiries convert, an Amazon storefront becomes another channel Chinese brands can stand up quickly while legacy makers are still tied to traditional dealer marketing. Retail, not just the car, is where this fight is heading.
